Planning for Community Broadband Success

Our needs assessment and business strategy service helps you use broadband to transform local government, grow your economy and improve constituents' lives.

Steps in this project include:

a roundtable discussion with potential stakeholders to shape (or re-shape) the vision for a broadband network that reflects the needs and realities of your specific community
department-by-department analysis of the local government to calculate potential cost savings, productivity increases and service delivery improvements
surveys of business constituents to uncover what broadband services will impact their bottom-line profits, and how much companies are willing to pay for these services
a canvass of the medical community to understand how the network can enhance the quality of healthcare delivery and emergency medical treatment
convening K-12, colleges and other prominent institutional organizations to assess how they can benefit from the network, and if their participation can influence grants to support the network

Besides assessing the needs of your government, various constituents, and stakeholders, we also probe to see what technology assets they have that might enhance the network. An inventory of these assets includes an overview of what highspeed access services already exist, and how they might be integrated into the big picture.

As the needs assessment identifies the potential uses and benefits of a highspeed network, we work to select the most appropriate business model that maximizes value derived from the network while minimizing financial risk for stakeholders. We pay careful attention to how the stakeholders can support on-going operations and expansion costs.

The project concludes with a strategy plan that 1) summarizes results from the needs assessment, 2) critiques existing technology assets, 3) recommends business models and stakeholder partnerships and 4) outlines steps to take your project to the next level. This plan will be a critical tool to help you prepare effective grant proposals.
